A Case of Hemolytic Transfusion Reaction Due to Anti-Jka

Abstract
This is the case report of hemolytic transfusion reaction due to anti-Jka.
The patient was a 30 year-old gravida 2, para 1, abortion 1, live birth 1. She had no
history of transfusion or injection of blood products. She had spontaneously delivered a
full term male infant. After delivery, she became anemic, so two pints of blood
transfusion was done (One pint of transfused blood was her husband's) . After
transfusion, The complained of fever, chillness, nausea, chest pain. One day after
transfusion, her laboratory data showed total bilirubin 5.5, BUN 35, positive indirect
antiglobulin test. From her serum, an irregular antibody was found and identified as
anti-Jka. Her husband's blood group was B, Rh+, Jka-
positive. Therefore the anti-Jka was thought to be the possible offending
antibody in this hemolytic transfusion reaction.
Occasionally. hemolytic transfusion reaction due to Jka incompatibility is
severe enough to threat patient's life. But this patient was suffered only from transient
acute renal failure. After adequate treatment, she was fully recovered and discharged.
